The following reading games have been carefully constructed to include words that contain only short vowels (for cvc reading games), with attention to an even mixture of first sounds, as well as interesting vocabulary (e.g., wit, bog, fad, cog, etc.).

Place all of the words for each set (e.g., short a) on the ends of popsicle sticks and stick them in a concealed jar. One student picks out a stick, reads the cvc word, and then MAKES UP A SENTENCE for that word.
